{"id":1654,"date":"2012-07-27T06:12:59","date_gmt":"2012-07-27T06:12:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.renando.com\/blog\/?p=1654"},"modified":"2021-01-15T22:20:34","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T22:20:34","slug":"female-participation-in-the-au-ict-industry-2010-stats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sidewaysthoughts.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/female-participation-in-the-au-ict-industry-2010-stats\/","title":{"rendered":"Female participation in the AU ICT industry (2010 stats)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1655\" title=\"Gender diversity in the Australian ICT industry\" alt=\"Gender diversity in the Australian ICT industry\" src=\"https:\/\/sidewaysthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/gender_diversity_in_the_ICT_industry1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In doing research for a diversity case study, I came across <a title=\"IBSA Environment Scan 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibsa.org.au\/Portals\/ibsa.org.au\/docs\/Research%20&amp;%20Discussion%20Papers\/Escan\/EScan2012\/IBSA%20Escan%202012%20-%20ICT.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an IBSA report on the Australian ICT industry<\/a>. \u00a0The female participation rate in the ICT industry was noted\u00a0<a title=\"IBIS Environment Scan 2010\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibsa.org.au\/Portals\/ibsa.org.au\/docs\/Research%20&amp;%20Discussion%20Papers\/Sectoral%20report%20-%20ICT%20Industry%2026%20Feb%2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the 2010 report<\/a>\u00a0at 29 percent, while female participation in all industries averages 45.3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Segments within the sector where females are between 30 percent to 50 percent include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graphic web design and illustrators<\/li>\n<li>Management and\u00a0organisational\u00a0analysis<\/li>\n<li>Electronic engineering draftpersons and technicians<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two segments that where females have a higher representation than men include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ICT trainers; and<\/li>\n<li>Other information and organisation professionals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I currently have a greater proportion of female to male managers, while applications for developers reflects the ICT averages noted above. \u00a0As one who participates in the recruitment process, I ask whether the issue of equality is about availability, opportunity, and\/or structure of our society.<\/p>\n<p>Is it a matter of making the industry more attractive or more accessible to females looking for their future career?
