{"id":22,"date":"2009-07-16T20:33:35","date_gmt":"2009-07-17T01:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.renando.com\/blog\/?p=22"},"modified":"2013-07-13T01:23:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-13T01:23:54","slug":"pictures-of-my-lovely-lung-lump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sidewaysthoughts.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/pictures-of-my-lovely-lung-lump\/","title":{"rendered":"Pictures of my lovely lung lump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I commented previously, my lovely lung lump was to be assessed by a third opinion of the radiologist.\u00a0 <strong>This third opinion was decidedly indecisive as well, so I have made the call to get what they call a biopsy.<\/strong> <!--more-->For the uninitiated (to whom I belonged not so long ago), a biopsy is when they stick a needle in you and get a sample, like the counter girl at Baskin Robbins reaching into the chill box for a sample of ice cream.\u00a0 Only without all the flavors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As promised, I now have pictures.<\/strong> I initially thought the lump was on my left side, so I will now need to shift my false psychosomatic pains to my right side.\u00a0 I am unsure the height, but it is a healthy 15 mm wide.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-28 alignnone\" title=\"My lungs front view\" alt=\"My lungs front view\" src=\"https:\/\/sidewaysthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/LungLump0211.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-26\" title=\"My lungs as seen by my feet\" alt=\"My lungs as seen by my feet\" src=\"https:\/\/sidewaysthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/LungLump011.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In preparation for the procedure next Wednesday, I had to acknowledge some risks associated with the operation. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&gt;5%: localized bleeding, coughing up blood, or my lung collapses like a balloon, to which apparently they blow it back up with a tube.<\/li>\n<li>1 to 5%: Infection, or an air embolism causing a heart attack or stroke.\u00a0 I am assuming they know CPR, so if it has to happen anywhere, I would rather it be on the table.<\/li>\n<li>&lt;1%: Death from \u201ccomplications\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am grateful for managing my expectations, as I would be annoyed afterwards if I died and they had not told me beforehand.\u00a0 In general, I play the odds, and am confident in the checks and balances from our litigious society.\u00a0 The hospital is filled with competent, capable, educated professionals with insurance to the gills, which means either everything will go as planned or my family is set for life.\u00a0 Either way, I have no worries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am interested in comments on what the lump actually is.<\/strong> My thoughts include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a growing watermelon seed I snorted last summer<\/li>\n<li>the alien love child from when I was abducted when I was 13<\/li>\n<li>the \u201ctrue world\u201d, for which all of history has been preparing us<\/li>\n<li>a portal to another dimension that will release the giraffes of hell through my chest cavity when prodded with the needle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If it is the last option, you have my sincere apologies, and I wish you the best as you make plans for your weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I commented previously, my lovely lung lump was to be assessed by a third opinion of the radiologist.
