Random Hacks of Kindness focus this\u00a0effort on the challenges that face humanity.<\/p>\n<p>Challenges we looked at this weekend include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People in parts of the world die\u00a0of curable disease\u00a0because they cannot afford to travel to their\u00a0nearest medical clinic.<\/li>\n<li>Suicide remains the biggest killer of young\u00a0Australians.<\/li>\n<li>We are living longer, but\u00a0the\u00a0likelihood of\u00a0experiencing a limiting disability increases dramatically with age.<\/li>\n<li>In our pursuit of progress, our actions threaten the very existence of species across the planet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tackling such complex issues can seem daunting for most anyone. \u00a0What made the weekend even more incredible was that the\u00a0Change Makers who took aim at these challenges were all under the age of 18.<\/p>\n<h2>The Change Makers<\/h2>\n<p>The Change Makers from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wmac.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Moreton Anglican School<\/a> were are all participating in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.impactacademy.net.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Impact Academy<\/a> Youth Accelerator Program for social entrepreneurs. \u00a0Over two days in the Random Hacks of Kindness hackathon, these\u00a0young people worked with\u00a0designers, programmers, and business experts\u00a0who volunteered their valuable\u00a0time to help make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>They walked in Saturday morning with an idea and commitment\u00a0and walked away Sunday evening with a platform to execute on their business.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Your Heard &#8211; What emerged was You&#8217;re Heard,\u00a0an online platform that will align with existing providers such as Headspace and Beyond Blue to\u00a0support\u00a0young people with mental health.\u00a0Hannah\u00a0can now focus on creating content, and\u00a0growing her\u00a0audience\u00a0and impact to better support\u00a0existing providers.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Umoji &#8211; Salomon passion\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Salomon\u00a0started the Impact Academy Accelerator program with a desire to start a clothing line.\u00a0As he\u00a0become more aware of the\u00a0potential for social enterprise, he realised he could combine fashion for good to help the Congo region where his parents are from.\u00a0In the hackathon, Salomon&#8217;s team which included representitives from <a href=\"http:\/\/devdemand.co\/\">Dev Demand<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.8webdesign.com.au\">8WebDesign<\/a> helped create a brand, a website, and\u00a0identify a partner overseas\u00a0that is providing medical training and aid to the region he is focusing on. \u00a0Salomon now has a platform \u00a0to launch his clothing line Umoji, meaning together, and\u00a0marketing strategies to attract interest\u00a0to support\u00a0the overseas partner.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cane Enabled &#8211; Lachlan Palmisano<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7528\" \n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Watching his grandfather experience complications in hip surgery inspired Lachlan to develop an idea for a &#8220;smart&#8221;, multi-purpose \u00a0mobility device. It was only through the hackathon and partnering with development platform <a href=\"http:\/\/workingmouse.com.au\/\">Working Mouse<\/a> that Lachlan was able to create a prototype that sent an SMS to \n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Having written a book when he was in grade 8, Harrison wanted to take his campaign to the next level. Connecting commercial outcomes with\u00a0social\u00a0impact, Harrison developed a platform to sell his book and get the threatened species of Narwhales sponsored. \u00a0The team which included design from <a href=\"http:\/\/redchalk.com.au\/\">Red Chalk<\/a>\u00a0and development from <a href=\"http:\/\/creatureoftech.wix.com\/rmw-its\">RMW-ITS<\/a>\u00a0focused on their strength of illustration and website build to create an online platform for Harrison to accept pre-orders.
